To be honest - I haven't even looked at the bushfire news for today. The nearest blaze _is_ still burning but it didn't threaten us directly yesterday and isn't likely to for at least the next 2-3 days. So it turned out to be the first day in the last six weeks that I wasn't living under siege. I had forgotten what normal life was like before the fires.
I won't say "Mission Accomplished" because it could be far from over, but now we're all looking around and assessing the damage around us. Going forward we aren't the same people that went into this disaster. This one was hard and nasty and the message is clear - this is the way summer is going to be in Australia into the foreseeable future. You're gonna' burn baby.
Deal with it.
