On New Years Eve, having nothing else to do (unlike my wife, who went to a Sylvester karioki evening in the village) I finished up watching the 2nd season of "The House of the Dragon". I had reservations about beginning on the series but my conclusion is that this was a fine season, better than the first and better also than "The Game of Thrones". The story, especially when it comes to the two women at the centre of the story, is full of amazing dramatic tension, and one of the hallmarks of the show is the generosity to its actors, allowing ample scope for those who play even minor parts to really shine and show their talent.
"The Game of Thrones" is an odd mix of fine cinema and kitsch, catering to the finest and crudest aspects of our nature. "The House of the Dragon" provides fewer cheap thrills and more soulful scenes. I would say that it was worth the 8 hours that I spent with it.
I am unfamiliar with the source material for "The House of the Dragon" so can give no comparison with that, but, as with "The Game of Thrones", the TV show kinds of stands on its own artistic merits.
