In this workshop I will introduce you some parts of the solo dance for janggu. Playing the janggu provides interesting coordinative challenges and lets you experience the oneness of dancing and drumming. It is an excellent basis for katsugi okedō-daiko playing.
I will place the focus on:
- the coordination of steps and drum beats
- the coordination, respectively the independence of right and left
- a relaxed, yet powerful and economical movement
- the ho-heup: the ho-heup becomes externally visible through a
- a springy up and down movement in the knees during drumming and dancing. Playing with ho-heup will shape the energy, the tension and relaxation in a rhythm pattern as well as the impact of the strokes.
We will learn a short choreography.
I teach with the traditional method of echo playing and by means of rhythmic language. Notations are secondary but can serve as an illustration. A warming up for body awareness and relaxation always form the basis before we get into drumming, as the drum sound is shaped by the quality of our movement.
Workshops 1 and 2 include different rhythm patterns of Sol Janggo.
You can book independently from each other.
